For underworld enforcer Richard "Rico" Sanders, it seemed like an ordinary job. Retrieve his gangster boss's priceless pigeon-blood red ruby necklace and teach the double-dealing cheat who stole it a lesson. A job like a hundred before it. But the chase quickly goes sideways and takes Rico from the mean streets of Chicago to sunny Honolulu, where the hardened hit man finds himself in uncharted territory when a couple of innocent bystanders are accidentally embroiled in the crime.
As Rico pursues his new targets, the hunter and his prey develop an unlikely respect for one another and Rico is faced with a momentous decision: follow his orders to kill the couple whose courage and character have won his admiration, or refuse and endanger the life of the woman he loves?
I received a free copy of Pigeon-Blood Red through Book Publicity Services who help promote indie books and authors. I was given this to read in return for an honest review. Thank you so much! I really enjoyed this one.
Now, this is a book I don’t think I ever expected to read, let alone enjoy. This is a little ways outside my usual genres. I can’t say I’ve never read a book like this, I do read a lot of books that fall under Thriller, but not many of those fall under Crime Thrillers or at least what I would consider a Crime Thriller. After finishing this one though, I definitely want to read more Crime Thrillers. I’ll be keeping an eye out for more books that fall under this genre in the future.

We follow Rico, an enforcer for a gangster boss, who sets out to retrieve a priceless necklace of pigeon-blood read rubies and to teach the guy who stole it a lesson. However, the job goes array and the necklace isn’t recovered. Rico goes after a couple he suspects has the necklace and must decide if he should follow through with his order to kill them.
This book flows really well, it didn’t take me long to breeze right through this! It’s a very quick-paced read, we rarely took a pause. It gave me strong vibes of all those crime movies in terms of how it’s paced and how the events played out. I will admit, I was a bit confused towards the beginning until we saw more of the details which explained what the heck was going on. However, being confused drove me to want to keep reading.

When I asked if I’d be interested in reading and reviewing this, I figured why not? Though, I wasn’t sure how I’d like it. But I was pleasantly surprised when I thoroughly enjoyed this much more than I initially expected. I found the plot to be very intriguing. Now don’t hold me to this statement, but this being one of the few Crime Thrillers I’ve read, I honestly found it to feel very realistic. None of the events seemed too far-fetched.
I think if you’re into Crime Thrillers definitely consider picking this one up! This book is a great quick short read being only about 200 pages. It drew me in quick and held me captivated all the way through.
