Miss Camilla Pierpont, a renowned matchmaker and influential member of the New York Four Hundred, has vowed never to marry after suffering a devastating heartbreak during her debut years ago. However, when she is nearly abducted along the Hudson River, she finds herself rescued by an annoyingly outspoken, albeit fascinating, gentleman who challenges her in a manner she wasn't expecting. After learning that Camilla Pierpont has enjoyed success with taking wayward young ladies in hand, Mr. Owen Chesterfield travels to the Hudson River Valley determined to convince Camilla to sponsor his sister, who is in desperate need of social rehabilitation. Knowing her life is in danger, Camilla agrees to Owen's proposition and travels with him to West Virginia, finding herself charmed by the less-than-formal attitude of his small hometown, as well as by Owen himself. But danger waits in the shadows, disrupting what she knows would be the most spectacular match she's ever made--her own.
I received a free copy of Meeting Her Match through Austenprose PR for a book tour. Thank you so much for this opportunity!
Last year I picked the previous book in this series, To Spark a Match and when I saw this one, I couldn’t help be get giddy with excitement. I simply adored the previous book! And this one did not disappoint.
Meeting Her Match follows Camilla Pierpont, who we’ve already met in the series, however, while I am familiar with her from the previous book, I can easily say each of these books in this series can be read as a standalone. While the characters from the earlier books are mentioned, our sole focus is the characters and the romance with a side of mystery in this book.
One of my favorite things about To Spark a Match was the banter between our main characters, which led to such an enjoyable read that left me smiling and giggling almost nonstop throughout the entire book. And Meeting Her Match follows that same vibe! Camilla Pierpont is considered to be one of the most influential members of New York Four Hundred and one of the most proper ladies, she can’t help but have her feathers ruffled by Owen Chesterfield who asks for her help with some social rehabilitation. I thought Owen was very sweet, especially with his lacking ability to talk to women. It was very entertaining to see him attempt to compliment Camilla and it came out like an insult. Their constant bantering was so entertaining to follow.
And even when these two weren’t bantering the events that occurred really were just amusing, to say the least. From the very beginning, I was captivated and curious about how things would play out. Right away we’re thrust into a curious situation with Camilla almost being abducted. And from then on, each event afterward was not one I could have seen coming. This was definitely not one that I found to be predictable.
If you enjoy historical romance books with lots of drama, humor, and a side of mystery, then definitely consider picking this one up!
