I was truly thrown through a loop with this one. I went through all the feels.

When Leeds meets Layla, he’s convinced he’ll spend the rest of his life with her—until an unexpected attack leaves Layla fighting for her life. After weeks in the hospital, Layla recovers physically, but the emotional and mental scarring has altered the woman Leeds fell in love with. In order to put their relationship back on track, Leeds whisks Layla away to the bed-and-breakfast where they first met. Once they arrive, Layla’s behavior takes a bizarre turn. And that’s just one of many inexplicable occurrences.
Feeling distant from Layla, Leeds soon finds solace in Willow—another guest of the B&B with whom he forms a connection through their shared concerns. As his curiosity for Willow grows, his decision to help her find answers puts him in direct conflict with Layla’s well-being. Leeds soon realizes he has to make a choice because he can’t help both of them. But if he makes the wrong choice, it could be detrimental for all of them.
This was my #EnchantedReadsBookClub February pick! This was such a fun one to read and discuss together!
When I finished this, I honestly felt speechless. I had no idea what I was going to be reading when I started this. I had only read one other Colleen Hoover book, Regretting You. Which I was initially told wasn’t like her usual books. Then, picking up Layla I heard this was even more unlike her usual books. So going into this, I had absolutely no expectations. Needless to say, after reading these two books by Colleen Hoover, I have no idea what her “usual” style is! And I don’t think my next Colleen Hoover read, Verity will tell me either!
That being said, what I thought I was reading at the start and what happened by the end was completely shocking. I don’t want to say too much, otherwise, it’ll spoil everything about this. I will say though, I found the premise very intriguing. Layla is considered a Thriller Paranormal Romance.

We follow Leeds, who is certain he wants to spend the rest of his life with his girlfriend, Layla. Until one day an unexpected attack leaves them both changed more so for Layla. Layla has healed physically but is mentally changed by the event. Leeds determined to stay with Layla plans a trip back to where they met at a Bed n Breakfast, in hopes to bring back their spark. However, as soon as they arrive Layla starts acting strange, among other strange paranormal events that occur during their stay. Leeds ends up meeting a spirit, Willow whom he quickly forms an intense relationship with. Leeds becomes captivated by Willow’s situation and is convinced he needs to help her. But one wrong choice could be detrimental to Layla or Willow.
As I mentioned, when I first started this I thought I was reading an entirely different type of book than how it was when I reached the end. I was truly thrown through a loop with this one. I went through all the feels. It helped that we start the beginning of the book in the middle of the story, then we backtrack to how it all started. This jumbled timeline helped keep me captivated. I wanted to know how we got to where the book started. It also made me wary of the characters we follow. I especially felt uncomfortable at the beginning when Leeds and Willow’s relationship starts. Everything about it just spelled disaster. Then about 75% through I was confused, I had no idea what to think of the story. I felt as if the rug was pulled out from underneath. It just made me go “Woah…”

This book is filled with twists and turns all the way through and I honestly didn’t see any of them coming. This one gave me all the feels. I was sad, angry, uncomfortable, everything! All that said, I truly don’t think this could have ended any better. Even though I was uncomfortable for the majority of the book, by the time we got to the end I was so happy with how things played out. That ending definitely felt like a Colleen Hoover book, I don’t think it would have worked with any other ending.
This book is filled with twists and turns all the way through and I honestly didn’t see any of them coming.
I highly recommend giving this one a shot if you enjoy Thrillers, Romance, and supernatural books. And if you’re a Colleen Hoover fan, then you definitely need to pick this one up! I can’t wait to read more of her books. This one shows she can definitely write anything!
