Journal Entry | January 2.2025

Hello, beasties!

I'm starting the year off strong and bringing back monthly reading hopefuls!

It's been a while since I've made a hopefuls list! But I love reading lists, it helps keep me accountable for reading. Plus marking them off is always so gratifying!

Going into 2025, I thought it would be fun to have monthly reading challenges to help inspire what I read throughout the year! To maybe pick up some books that have been sitting on my shelf for a while.

For January, it seemed fitting to pick reads that focus on the idea of a New Year!

This can be taken in a multitude of ways, and I have several with what I picked for this month myself! Let’s go through them ~

Reflection by Elizabeth Lim

This one I picked strictly by its name, “Reflection” as what do we usually do heading into the new year? Reflect on the past! Cheesy, I know, but it seemed fitting! Plus, I really would like to try and catch up with the Twisted Tales series.

Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

This was another one that I picked by its title, A New Year, a New World, why not pick up this classic novel heading into the new year?

The Second Chance Year by Melissa Wiesner

This romance just screamed New Year's read! The premise of a girl getting a chance to redo her entire year. Especially with my goal of trying to get back into reading and finding myself again, this one just seemed fitting to try and pick up this month!

Recursion by Blake Crouch

New year, new book club! This is my new #PNWEnchantedReadsBookClub January pick! I can’t wait to dive into this one, I loved my last Crouch read. And I’m even more excited that this will be for a local book club!

Blood on Their Hands by Mandy Matney

Tangled Vines by John Glatt

New year, new genres? These two books fall into the challenge of picking up a genre new to you. This was an idea my boyfriend suggested, and I liked the idea but, being the type of reader that I am, who reads a little bit of everything, I had no idea what to pick. Then he said, “What about true crime? I never see you reading those.” So I scoured my shelves and found these two! I would have picked just one, except they’re both around the same crime, so it seemed fitting to read both and see how they compare!

As I go into the new year, I’m filled with hope for a strong year of reading!

It was funny actually, when I was sharing with my boyfriend what I was hoping to read this month, he was shocked by the amount. Questioning that I really planned to try and read them all. The scene from Legally Blonde where Warner questions how Elle got into Harvard and she goes, "What, like, it's hard?" started playing in my head, so that's what I said to him. Haha! He just laughed at me.

I know not every month will be a good reading month, some months are better than others. I know I've read way more in the past but also way less. I'll be happy with whatever I read this month! I’ve already got two reads down and it’s only January 2! I can’t wait to see how the rest of this month goes!

Until next time!
